FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE - April 16, 2012 - Hong Lee Trading Inc., 225 Johnson Ave., Brooklyn, NY 11203 is recalling Peacock Brand Preserved Apricots because it may contain undeclared sulfites.  People who have a severe sensitivity to sulfites run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reactions if they consume this product.

The recalled Peacock Brand Preserved Apricots come in an un-coded, 300 gram (10.6 oz.), clear, plastic container and was sold nationwide.  It is a product of Vietnam.

The recall was initiated after routine sampling by New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets Food Inspectors and subsequent analysis of the product by Food Laboratory personnel revealed the presence of sulfites in packages of Peacock Brand Preserved Apricots which did not declare sulfites on the label.  The consumption of 10 milligrams of sulfites per serving has been reported to elicit severe reactions in some asthmatics.  Anaphylactic shock could occur in certain sulfite sensitive individuals upon ingesting 10 milligrams or more of sulfites.

No illnesses has been reported to date in connection with this problem.  Consumers who have purchased Peacock Brand Preserved Apricots should return it to the place of purchase.  Consumers with questions may contact the company at (718) 386-2100.
